Painted Cabinets Before the Baby Arrives!

We received a mention on a local swap shop page for painting cabinets. We followed up with it and were contracted to paint the kitchen and bathroom cabinets. The catch was that it needed to be done before the new baby arrived!!!! We agreed to do the job and got busy.

The house was in a total gut and remodel condition when we first arrived. So, we had to work on the doors at home while the rest of the mess was ready to be cleaned up.

We suggested to the customer that the paint be slightly distressed. We often suggest distressing, or glazing on painting cabinets largely because painted cabinets will often chip with use and distressing or glazing helps to hide the wear. These cabinets were also older cabinets with some wear to begin with so a slight distressing would also mask the former use.

We also often find some repairs needed. In this case, some of the trim had been taken off during the remodel and we had to fabricate new pieces to complete the project. There were also some drawers the needed repair and one drawer needed to be completely rebuilt.

Along the way, they built a new island base. With our suggestion, the customer agreed to paint the island a darker gray to set it apart from the other cabinets.

In the end, we put on the last brush of paint while the mother was having the baby in the hospital!
