We began our journey looking for a manufactured home. We went to the first mobile home dealership that we saw. It was a spur of the moment turn off of the hiway into a dealer. Looking at their offerings, we went away very discouraged. The quality and design were way less than desirable.
So, we decided to seek out other options through FaceBook ads etc. One after the other, each one seemed to prove to be better quality. Finally, we went to one dealer that offered a home that was a promotional model with many upgrades for a reasonable price. To us, it was almost perfect! The problem was that it was located in Sulphur Springs, TX and they couldn’t deliver to Arkansas. We proceeded to turn to another dealer of the same manufacturer, only to find out that their models are sold by regions and don’t offer the same models or deals across the land.
We finally decided to look at some dealers closer to Hot Springs. The first one offered some nice options and we spent a lot of time talking with them about the process. They were very helpful and professional. Then to a second one. It was okay, but not much better. It was late in the day and we wanted to get back home but we saw one more dealer. I suggested that since we were there, we should take advantage of the opportunity.
As soon as the sales person showed us the first home, we noted a marked difference! It was astounding that the quality and design was far superior to any others we’d seen. We were even more surprised that the price was super reasonable especially considering the major upgrade in quality.
This manufacture offered:
- 8 1/2 ft ceiling height
- 2×6′ exterior wall studs, 2×4 interior wall studs throughout (most are 2×4 and 2×3)
- Fully taped and textured drywall throughout (most offered vinyl covered panels in closets and wet rooms)
- Solid wood frame cabinets (most are vinyl wrapped fiberboard)
- Return air vents in every room (the only one who does this)
- And – fully special order plan and decor options.
After over a month of perusing plans and decor options, we finally found the plan we wanted. We put down a deposit on it this week and it will take about 3 months to build our home.
This leads us to look forward to the next part of the process. We have been in conversation with numerous contractors.
- Dirt work and tree removal contractor
- Septic tank percolation tests
- Surveyor
- Electric installers
- Plumbing installers
- Shop building contractors
